We Stand With Ukraine is an international, collaborative art exhibition and fundraiser for the LGBTQI Ukrainian community. Artists from around the world are participating in this exhibition: from Singapore to Switzerland, from Argentina to Austria, from the United States to the United Kingdom.
We Stand With Ukraine represents a small portion of an immense project by Ukrainian photographer, Igor Yermakov. A few years ago Yermakov photographed Ukrainian model Sergey Sheptun in Kyiv, and then invited artists from across the globe to create artwork referencing these photographs.
Russian-exported homophobia is rampant in Ukraine, reinforced by Russia's disinformation campaign. While Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy has attempted to combat this regressive hate campaign and has lifted the ban on LGBTQI people serving in the military, much more needs to be done.
The team at The SoHo Project Space condemns Russia's brutal invasion of this sovereign nation and its slaughter of innocent people. The public is urged to visit this important exhibition and support our endeavor to aid our Ukrainian LGBTQI friends in this time of desperation. Proceeds from the sales of this artwork during the exhibition will be distributed between the participating artists and two LGBTQI Ukrainian non-governmental organizations: LGBTQI Defenders of Ukraine and We Are!. The latter is an organization that defends the human rights of the LGBTQI community and provides legal assistance to the LGBTQI members of the military.
