During the last decade of his life he was a friend and mentor to Reed Massengill. Lon’s work was the subject of Massengill’s 2005 book THE MALE IDEAL: LON OF NEW YORK AND THE MASCULINE PHYSIQUE. Massengill has championed Lon’s work for decades, with the commitment to the inclusion of Lon’s oeuvre in important photographic anthologies, archives and private collections.
